How do I know if I need Sex therapy?

Sex therapy is a type of talk therapy that focuses on addressing sexual concerns and improving sexual functioning and satisfaction. Here are some signs that you might benefit from sex therapy:

  1. Difficulty with sexual desire or arousal.

  2. Pain during sex.

  3. Erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation in men.

  4. Difficulty reaching orgasm.

  5. Sexual dysfunction related to a medical condition, such as diabetes or multiple sclerosis.

  6. Sexual trauma or abuse.

  7. Low sexual satisfaction or enjoyment.

  8. Conflicts or disagreements with your partner about sex.

  9. Difficulty communicating about sex with your partner.

If you are experiencing any of these issues and they are affecting your sexual relationships or overall well-being, it might be helpful to consider reaching out to one of our therapists. We can work with you and your partner (if applicable) to identify the underlying causes of your concerns and develop strategies to improve your sexual functioning and satisfaction.

How does Sex therapy work?

During sex therapy, we will work with you to identify the underlying causes of your sexual concerns and develop strategies to address them. This may involve discussing your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors related to sex, as well as exploring any past experiences or events that may be impacting your sexual health.

We may also provide education about sexual anatomy and function, as well as offer suggestions for enhancing sexual communication and intimacy with your partner. In some cases, we may also recommend exercises or techniques to improve sexual function or address specific sexual concerns.

The goal of sex therapy is to help you and your partner (if applicable) feel more confident, comfortable, and satisfied with your sexual relationships and experiences. Sex therapy typically involves several sessions, and the number of sessions required will depend on the nature and severity of your concerns.

It's important to note that sex therapy is a collaborative process and we will work with you to develop an individualized treatment plan that addresses your specific needs and goals. If you are considering sex therapy, please reach out to one of our therapists to schedule a consultation.
